Happy World Wetlands Day!

Let's hear it forAnacostia River wetlands at Langston Golf Course in May 2021 the Anacostia River's wetlands! For almost two decades the Anacostia Watershed Society has been restoring our favorite river's tidal wetlands. Across our programs, we've had the help of thousands of volunteers through the years who have literally trudged through mud to revitalize a key habitat of a healthy river.  From our school-aged Rice Rangers who grow native wild rice and duck potato and plant them riverside, to our volunteer groups who help us remove invasive species and plant new trees, all the way to our Earth Day and Trash Trap volunteers who help us keep it all clean - thank you to everyone who works to protect this important part of the Anacostia River's ecosystem.

Feb 16 - Leave it to Beavers at our next Watershed Wednesday Happy Hour

Are you curious about about beavers, the aquatic mammal that reshapes our waterways? Join us on Wednesday, February 16, from 6-7:30pm for our next virtual Watershed Wednesday Happy Hour. You can log right in and learn all about these amazing critters who were recently featured in the Bay Journal.  We are delighted to have Kerry Wixted, noted local naturalist, sharing her expertise with us this month.

 

Come and work with the Saturday Environmental Academy

The Anacostia Watershed Society is recruiting educators for our Saturday Environmental Academy Spring Semester!  If you are an experienced environmental educator with 8 extra hours a week and available on Saturdays from March 26 - May 14, 2022, then this volunteer position with a stipend may be for you! To see an example semester schedule and learn more about the program,  you can visit SEA's webpage.

The 2021-2022 academic year theme is "Healthy River, Healthy You!" We are helping students learn about and experience human and environmental health connections.

Additionally, we are still seeking a new facilities and resources manager (pdf link). 

 

RiverSmart Communities Application Period Extended to February 7

The grounds at your house of worship in DC can be transformed into a river-friendly garden through the RiverSmart Communities program! The application deadline is extended to Feb 7, and we're here to help you make it happen.
