iNaturalist and the Anacostia River BioBlitz
The sixth annual Anacostia River Bioblitz is just around the corner, and this virtual event is set to give you the training you need to use our main tool, iNaturalist! By making hundreds of observations over a short period of time like this, groups like the Anacostia Watershed Society and more can track our region's biodiversity and ensure the health of our environment for all species. We are delighted to be joined by our partners Ana Ka’ahanui from Capital Nature; Serenella Linares, Audubon Naturalist Society; and Deborah Barber, The Nature Conservancy; for this event!
Ana Ka’ahanui (AH-na Ka-AH-ha-noo-ee) is a bonafide nature nerd and Co-Founder of local nonprofit Capital Nature. She is a certified Forest Therapy Guide with the Association of Nature Forest Therapy Guides and Programs. Ana is a certified Master Naturalist in Virginia and is committed to connecting people to nature in the DC region. She is on the leadership team for the DC area City Nature Challenge and on the steering committee for the Washington Area Citizen Science Network. Ana is an avid birder and nature photographer and loves to take daily nature walks with her husband and their dog Lani.
Serenella Linares is the Manager of Virtual Programs at Audubon Naturalist Society (ANS) and Co-Chair of Naturally Latinos. She is dedicated to sparking curiosity about nature and inspiring nature stewardship through environmental education. Serenella is known around ANS for being an expert in two things: making learning fun (for children and adults) and mycology (mushroom knowledge).
Deborah Barber is the Director of Land Management at the Nature Conservancy. She is responsible for the management of the chapter's land holdings, including easements and public preserves, for their conservation, research, and recreational value. She specializes in volunteer management and staff training, and brings her expertise to this session.
