Come to the River!
Did you know the Anacostia Watershed is home to both the Captain John Smith National Water Trail and a contiguous 40-mile bike trail system?
Come discover the recreational amenities in your backyard by joining AWS and our partners for a day of biking, boating, and paddling! Register by clicking the "Sign Up" box above for the opportunity to canoe or kayak on the river for free, and read more about Pedal Paddle Palooza here. Please note this event is first-come first-served, so come early for a better chance of hopping in a canoe or kayak. Canoe and kayak launch sites will be held at Kingman Island, the Aquatic Resources Education Center in Anacostia Park, Kenilworth Park, and the 11th Street Bridge.
You must complete a registration for every person who plans to attend, including children or family members. There are no age restrictions, and personal flotation devices will be provided at no cost.
If you have any physical limitations or differences please let us know by emailing info@anacostiaws.org so we can discuss potential accommodations.
What to bring:
- Reuseable water bottle filled with water
- Sunscreen
- Hat and Sunglasses
- Sealable bag to put your phone in during the trip
- Dry bag for your items, if you have one
- Shoes that can get damp
- Towel in case you get a little splashed
