Dates: 2nd Saturdays, September 2025 – August 2026
Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm
Cost: $250 – includes classroom training, field trips, and an in-depth volunteer manual
Topics include: An introduction to Maryland's natural history, an exploration of how humans have impacted the Anacostia River, the "science of science", the basics of teaching and interpretation, and an introduction to birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, fungi, and plants.
Participants will take part in boat trips, paddles, and field trips to local areas!
The first portion of the program consists of 60 hours of training led by experts in the field. The second portion of the program consists of completing 40 volunteer hours with AWS (September 2025 –August 2026). To maintain certification, 8 hours of advanced training and 40 hours of volunteer service must be completed annually.
