Meet Elliptio!
Hello all! I’m Elliptio! I’m from the mighty Anacostia River, and my job is to filter unhealthy and toxic stuff out of the river water! I’m what scientists call a bioindicator, which means that when I’m healthy, the River is healthy, and when I’m feeling sick, the river is also feeling sick. Let’s work together to keep me and the Anacostia River strong!
Shell-Ebrate Mussels and Support AWS!
AWS is launching a new campaign for this month to help us continue restoring mussels in the Anacostia River – and you can be a part of it! Mussels are small but mighty. They help keep the water clean and healthy for both people and wildlife. You can support this important work by donating to our mussel restoration efforts, or by purchasing a cool, student-designed mussel t-shirt! Every shirt and every dollar helps protect our river!
Mussel Student-Designed T-Shirt Contest Winner!
The AWS Education Team is proud to announce that this year's winner of the Student Designed Mussel T-Shirt contest is Chimasokam A., a Prince George's County Public Schools 8th grader. All students participating in the Mussel Power Program from all 33 PGCPS schools (7 middle and 26 high schools) were eligible to submit a design. Visit our Bonfire store to purchase this limited edition t-shirt and support our mussel restoration work.
