Riparian Tree Planting Boat Tour on the Anacostia

Meeting Location: Bladensburg Waterfront Park 4601 Annapolis Rd, Bladensburg, MD 20710. A virtual presentation via Zoom will precede this tour on August 21, 7 pm-8:30 pm, and will go over the aspects of this projects in more detail. We recommend people to attend both events.  

Project: AWS and our current master naturalists cohort will give a boat tour of our project recovering riparian areas affected by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The tour will include a short pontoon boat ride as well as walking one of our riparian tree planting areas. 

This field trip and the associated Zoom presentation are recommended for any community groups or non-profit organizations attempting a similar reforestation project in areas impacted by EAB. 

Physical Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

• This event involves walking for short distances on uneven surfaces, some areas are off-trail and could be muddy. Participants will be expected to wear closed-toed shoes for the duration of the event. If you think any of the physical requirements will be problematic, please let us know or consider joining another event.

What to Wear/Bring: We recommend wearing closed-toed shoes, sunscreen and a hat, and bringing water in a reusable water bottle(s). 

Note: 

• All tours are weather dependent. We will proceed in light rain, but may need to cancel if there is heavy rain, lightning, or strong wind in the forecast.
• If you are sick or exhibiting symptoms associated with COVID-19 (such as fever, chills, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, etc.), please do not come to the event and consider joining us another time.
